Here's who I am...

I am an engineer-turned economist, a naturalized citizen of the United States, born in Sri Lanka. I completed my PhD in economics at the Washington State University in 2012 and now working at the Department of Economics of the University of Oklahoma as a Visiting Assistant Professor in Econometrics, Health Economics and Statistics with research interests in the same disciplines plus the other areas of applied microeconomics. Before moving here, I worked as a Visiting Assistant Professor at the Department of Economics of the Eastern Washington University for one year. After living over five years in two rural towns in eastern Washington, now I enjoy the semi-urban life in Norman, Oklahoma, with my family.
My pre-doctoral educational qualifications include an MSc in economics and econometrics from the University of Nottingham, UK, an MBA from the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka, and a BScEng degree in electrical and electronic engineering from the University of Peradeniya, Sri Lanka. Before moving to the US permanently, I served as the Head of the Money and Banking Division and as an Assistant Director of the Payments and Settlements Department of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka during 2003-2008. During 1995-2003, I worked as an engineer in the areas of tele-communication, industrial automation and software development at three organizations. I also worked as a Teaching and Research Assistant at the School of Economic Sciences, Washington State University during 2009-2012 while studying for my doctoral degree.
I have published recently in Health Economics, Prevention Science, Communications in Statistics - Theory and Methods and International Journal of Behavioural and Healthcare Research. I also have a forthcoming publication in Heredity with an interdisciplinary team, outside my main research area. I enjoy teaching the PhD Microeconometrics class and the Health Economics class I teach now, and also willing to teach many other macro, micro and quantitative subjects.
I love travelling, music and spending time with my two precious treasures, Chirayu (born 2006) and Seth (born 2009).
